I dare you!!!

JUST SOMETHING TO SPICE UP YOUR WORK/SCHOOL:

ONE-POINT DARES
1. Ignore the first five people who say 'good morning' to you.

2. To signal the end of a conversation, clamp your hands over your ears and grimace.

3. Leave your fly open for one hour. If anyone points it out, say, "Sorry, I really prefer it this way".

4. Walk sideways to the photocopier.

5. While going in an elevator, gasp dramatically each time the Doors open.

6. When in elevator with one other person, tap them on the shoulder and pretend it wasn't you.

7. Finish all your sentences with "In accordance with the prophecy..."

8. Don't use any punctuation.

9. Interrupt your conversation with someone by giving a huge dejected sigh.

10. Use your highlighter pen on the computer screen.

THREE-POINT DARES
1. Say to your boss, "I like your style", wink, and shoot him with double-barrelled fingers.

2. Kneel in front of the water cooler and drink directly from the nozzle.

3. Shout random numbers while someone is counting.

4. Every time you get an email, shout ''email''.

5. Put decaf in the coffee maker for 3 weeks. Once everyone has got over his or her caffeine addictions, switch to espresso.

6. Keep hole punching your finger. Each time you do, shout, "dagnamit, it's happened again!". Then do it again.

7. Introduce yourself to a new colleague as "the office bicycle". Then wink and pout.

8. Call I.T. helpdesk and tell them that you can't seem to access any Pornography web sites.

FIVE-POINT DARES
1. At the end of a meeting, suggest that, for once, it would be nice to conclude with the singing of the national anthem (extra points if you actually launch into it yourself).

2. Walk into a very busy person's office and while they watch you with growing irritation, turn the light switch on/off 10 times.

3. For an hour, refer to everyone you speak to as "Dave".

4. Announce to everyone in a meeting that you "really have to go do a number two".

5. After every sentence, say 'Mon' in a really bad Jamaican accent. As in: "The report's on your desk, Mon." Keep this up for one hour.

6. In a meeting or crowded situation, slap your forehead repeatedly and mutter, "Shut up, damn it, all of you just shut up!"

7. At lunchtime, get down on your knees and announce, "As God is my witness, I'll never go hungry again!"

8. Repeat the following conversation 10 times to the same person: "Do you hear that?" "What?" "Never mind, it's gone now."

9. Present meeting attendees with a cup of coffee and biscuit; smash biscuit with your fist.

10. During the course of a meeting, slowly edge your chair towards the door.

11. As often as possible, skip rather than walk.

12. Ask people what sex they are. Laugh hysterically after they answer.

13. Hump the photocopier. When someone spots you, stop and cough embarrassingly, then lean in to the machine and whisper loudly, "I'll call you tonight".

What's wrong with me???

gosh, i seriously have no idea what's wrong with me today. i had a class in the morning and it was alright, i learnt how to use the audio software we've got in the newsroom (audacity) and i think i'm gettin the hang of it the only problem is that sometimes i can't concentrate. damn it.

besides, that i had this very interesting email that was coming round and the most interesting thing about it was being labelled. wanna know? well apparently to a certain someone in the newsroom i'm an ALREADY CONFUSED HUGE FUCK. now, i'm not saying that i took offence at that...BULLSHIT... of course i took offence, nobody calls me a huge fuck except my brother Jese and he's gone so that leaves no-one. so i guess that was what got me ticked off and the sad thing about it is that i can't focus properly on what i'm supposed to be doing.

i have to write about 6 stories this week for radio and another one for my 201 class and it's not coming well at all. sux to be me. lolz.

i realise that i haven't blogged in a while. the last time i wrote something was like last week and that seems like ages ago. damn! i need to find more time to blog. i would love to blog from home but by the time i get home, i'm too tired to do shit.

the only highlight for my week is that my sister Zellah is coming in from Brisbane today with my boys Denzel and Zion. and then Jone comes in on Friday and then on Saturday i'm singing with Graham's band at Wati's friends b'day party and there'll be drinks galore!!!! i'm gonna get Jone to give me $20 so i can go and get my ears pierced. i'm thinking a double pierce on my left ear. cool huh?

then on Monday nex week i'm going to Nadi so i can pick up Taina from the airport and we'll come back to Suva probably on the same day or maybe early tuesday morning. we'll see.

Next week is Graham's and leiby's wedding and i can't wait for it. it's the biggest event in the family calendar besides of course Mum & Dad's retirement service which is on the Sunday (8 Apr).

that's about it for now. i'm gonna try and see if i can do some real work...lolz... as if i can even think of something to write. but until i next blog.... ciao!

oh! check out this new manga that i'm reading: Bleach

What a long week it has been!

wow... i can't believe that i haven't posted anything in my blog after sooooo long! i can't even remember what i had in my last blog. well, this week has been absolutely draining. i have had classes postponed, assignment hand-in's, editing stories for Wansolwara and i am currently awaiting to begin my next class (JN 201) and we will be working for the next three hours on newspaper layout. our assignment from Shalen is to design and create a 6 paged newsletter of any theme and we have to use the design software available in the newsroom.

oh, i've just completed downloading the latest comic from the naruto shippuden series. it's getting very exciting... hmmm i might actually try and post the comic here so i can read it whenever i want! cool!!!

so if you are a naruto fan then stay tuned for more of the Naruto series!

that's about it for now, i can't think of anything else to write.

ciao!

Naruto Shippuden

Check out the cover for the 345th edition of Naruto:

The shippuden series has to be my utmost favourite series in Naruto. It's got parts where Naruto learns new abilities and develops a new jutsu that is suited only for himself. I can't wait for the showdown between Naruto and Sasuke. It's gonna be so exciting!

My Weekend

Well, things have been so busy for me that I almost forgot to upload a new post to this blog. Gosh! Did you actually think that I would forget to post something up on a weekly (if not daily basis)? Well, you thought wrong!

My weekend was ok; actually it was the best weekend ever for me! It began with the Malaga Singers dinner on Friday night which is a story on its own. Look to later posts to know exactly what happened on that Friday night. Hehehehehe… I trust that it would be worth your while. But back to the story, Saturday we didn’t do much at home except relax. What I didn’t know was that mum and dad had called a meeting of the family to discuss our contributions to Graham and Leibling’s wedding.

Wati came round with Sam and Claude; and after them came Akuila and Kesa. They were all here for the meeting. While the adults met, I put on a cartoon for the kids to watch – it was Clifford’s really BIG movie. I actually enjoyed it! It wasn’t like I had previously imagined it and I’m actually contemplating on watching it again. NO! I am not a totally aimless person; it’s just that I’d rather watch a good cartoon than some of the trash that’s coming out of Hollywood at the moment, except of course for Dream girls; which I am planning on watching as soon as I can come up with the funds.

That night, Wati asked if I could babysit her sons. She had to go for a friend’s anniversary dinner and her father was out for the night. I agreed of course, coz there was money in it for me… duh! So there I was babysitting the boys, we watched two movies: Funky Monkey (some B-grade movie) and Monster House (this is one dark animated film). Not long after I finished Monster House, we all knocked out in the living room.

Sunday morning, I had a cup of caro (fake coffee) and a slice of freshly baked bread for breakfast and after we had breakfast, Wati and Claude dropped me off home. We had to stop over at Kundan Singh’s so Wati could withdraw some cash from the ATM for some shopping and my babysitting payment ($20). I am an affordable babysitter so if you ever need a babysitter, give me a holler!

Got home and got ready for church, we went to church at ten and the service started at ten-thirty. It was pretty good, despite the fact that Jessica kept crawling to her father in front and then across to her grandmother sitting at the OHP desk. After the service, we had a family lunch at the back hall and I lay down for a well deserved sleep. I woke up just in time to catch a cab to the Music Centre for the first Malaga Singers rehearsal for the year. It was absolutely fabulous (lolz) and I haven’t sung that hard in such a long time. Igelese sure knows how to drive the power in your voice (power tiko vei iko… lolz).

After the practice, we had a meeting to discuss our plans for the fundraising for the year and everyone had to be involved in at least one committee. I had rostered myself for the month of May which is involved with organising a secondary school choral festival and Tiri also asked if I could help her with the June fundraising which was the Movie Nite. We all had our separate committee meetings and we finished by 6pm-ish.

Tiri dropped me home in her car along with Jason, Ronnie and Ravu (who was squeezed in between Jason and Ronnie in the backseat).

And that was my weekend (well, round about it). Like I said above, keep checking for my update on what I did on Friday night.

Ciao!

SADNESS

i just heard that a good friend of mine had a miscarriage last month and i'm feeling sad for two things... first:~ that she lost her baby and second:~that i wasn't around to be there for the funeral... i wish i cud kick myself in the butt sometimes. that friend of mine is my niece's godmother and i look at her like my little sister. her loss is also my loss. sometimes life just hands you stuff that is sometimes hard to deal with.

my pain and sympathy goes to the mother (Johanna) and love to Baby Joshua Emmanuel Jorgensen (16-02-07).

[:-(

It's a hectic day for me

well, i'm just taking a few moments out of what has to be the busiest day i have seen this week to post a quicky on my blog... we had a one hour class with Shalen and he had us all running around chasing up stories and working to meet tomorrow's deadline... hehehehehe... all a part of being a journalist huh?

well, i've got to sign off here but do check around for some updates.

USP's Vice Chancellor Resigns - Official Release

To: All staff and students at USP

From: Professor Anthony Ashton TARR

I have a couple of things I wish to share with you today but will start with the most immediately obvious one to you all. You today received notice from the Pro-Chancellor, the Honorable Fiame Mata'afa of my resignation from USP for personal and family reasons effective 30 April 2007. I thank the Pro- Chancellor for her very generous and supportive comments and I wish the Pro-Chancellor and the Council every success as they continue to develop USP in the best interests of the 12 countries that make up the USP family. It is with considerable regret that I tender this resignation as I, and my family, hold the region and Fiji in particular very close to our hearts.

I would, as I leave, like to make a few comments and to recognize and acknowledge a few things:

First, as noted already, my family and I thank this community for the wonderful support and hospitality shown to us. There is very good reason why the Pacific region is already one of the leading tourist destinations in the world - quite aside from the beauty of the natural environment, there is the overwhelming natural friendliness of the people that is unique because it is so widespread, spontaneous and genuine.

Second, I would like to thank the staff and students at USP for their support and friendship. USP is a very good example of successful regional cooperation and I was proud to be associated with the USP family during my time here. The university is the main provider of tertiary education in the Pacific Island region and I think that it does a remarkable job with the more limited resources that it has compared to other similar institutions in neighbouring countries. Open Day at USP provides a good insight into the tremendous talent, energy and diversity of the peoples of the Pacific region and USP is greatly enriched by this diversity. It is a day each year from here on in I will be thinking of you and wishing very much I was once more in your midst.

Third, the corporate communities in Fiji and the region have been amazingly generous in supporting initiatives like the All Rounders scholarship program. This program, as you know, is designed to build outstanding leaders of the future by giving academically capable and gifted sportspeople the opportunity to develop their sporting ability & discipline while pursuing various courses at USP. Julie-Anne Tarr, in promoting this leadership program, only encountered support from the business sector; this generosity and willingness to support vision was similarly provided again and again in her pursuit of support for projects such as the construction of dormitories for USP, the renovation of the gymnasium - that I hope so many of you now use - the creation of the concept papers for the sports science programs and the blue prints and implementation for the development of the technology park that we are hoping will be one of the keys to reversing the brain drain that has so effected this region.

Fourth, and on a very positive note - the Information and Communications Park (the ICT Park) at USP – as I have just noted - is gaining momentum with several tenants in place. Again, as many of you may be aware, we sought rezoning of the Statham Street property in 2005 under the “Studio City” legislation in Fiji. This rezoning was granted and the effect of this is that audio-visual and IT companies setting up business within the ICT Park are eligible with the approval of the Joint FAVC / FIRCA Committee for tax concessions for 10 years. The benefits to the university through attracting tenants of this kind to the university are threefold: (i) creation of an income stream; (ii) establishment of experiential learning opportunities for our IT students who can get on- the- job training and work experience in the ICT Park; and (iii) joint research collaborations. For Fiji I see software development as an area where the country can develop a niche market. This has to be attractive as it is a “clean” industry delivering high returns to employees and it generates a lot of secondary employment.

Fifth, the university has refocused its research to make a more applied contribution to the region. Our joint venture with Dairy Farms Fiji in developing aquaculture and fresh water prawn farming at Nabua is a good example. The establishment of this collaboration between the university (providing the technical and research support), the private corporation (providing the management and marketing expertise) and government (providing the infrastructure) to commercially produce high quality fresh water prawns is the type of import substitution measure that will assist the national economy and its balance of payments position.

Sixth, numerous infrastructure projects for USP have been agreed upon and are on the horizon in countries like the Marshall Islands, Kiribati, the Cook Islands and Vanuatu. In Fiji, several projects like a new 6 building dormitory complex and a new $35 million ICT building were scheduled to proceed this year but political events have delayed their construction. In the midst of all of this it would be remiss of me not to comment upon the peaceful and collaborative relocation of the Ba Ni Ose settlement on Queen Elizabeth Drive. That this was accomplished in such good faith and without any rancour says a lot for the people of this community.

In conclusion, thank you for your support and friendship. I look forward to seeing and talking to many of you before we take our leave.

Anthony A Tarr

Vice-Chancellor

Getting into the thick of things

Well, it's just the first week of school and i am already starting to get into the thick of things. On monday, i had my first JN 201 class with Shalen and he just laid down the law for us. This year's editorial team for the first semester is made up of second year students in our class. I'm applying for the post of Chief of Staff. My job (if i get it) will be to regulate all the stories that are supposed to be sent in to the editors room for editing when they are due. I'm also supposed to collect and dispatch press releases to the JN reporters in the newsroom to cover and also write up a few stories myself. So, this semester will quite a hectic one for me.

Then of course there's my radio show, which has been shifted from WED's @ 10 to 11am to WED's @ 12 to 1pm. I'm glad that Shirley's using my idea of a workplan to ensure that everybody in the station has a programme to adhere to. I'm excited about starting my first show next week. I'm gonna focus in the month of march on the Life and Works of Sir Andrew LLoyd Webber. I'm gonna talk about his personal life next week and feature is works in the coming weeks.

OH! and also for the month of march i am going on a 31 day fast (-ish kinda thing). I'll be cutting down on my eating and drinking a lot more water than usual. I'm also gonna try to walk a lot more, stop catching cabs and buses. Exercise is a major thing for me and if i do eat it's gonna be green, lean and fruity.

Back to the issue at hand, i'm gonna just sign off here coz i haven't got much to do and it's in so little time.
